Hi everyone!
We welcomed our second baby on July 3rd and everything went perfect.
I put a few teasers of the nursery on my facebook page last month and finally felt the itch to do a full before and after post.
Here is the room while my husband was prepping it to paint. It was very brown.
AFTER
(The changing table isn't this bright in person)
We painted the walls Misty Moonstone by Glidden
The crib is painted Teal Zeal by Behr
and the changing table and end table were a custom color.
I had an "oops" paint by valspar called Texas Star and I mixed brown paint until I was happy with the color.
We took the doors off of the closet and the changing table fit perfectly plus it gave us tons of extra room in the nursery.
We didn't paint the inside of the closet and you could see the paint line which I despised. Instead of asking my husband to paint the closet to match the rest of the room I hung sheer curtains.
The small rug and lamp is from Walmart. I glued the pink ribbon to the shade and used the extra to tie back the curtains.
I made the crib skirt and it is 100% no -sew. CLICK HERE to see the original post and it includes the tutorial I used to make the skirt.
The pillow was made by my friend Megan with left over fabric. (She sewed it)!
The embroidery hoops were made with scrapbook paper and a diaper box! CLICK HERE for that full post.
I found the pink laundry basket from TJ Maxx
If there is anything you have questions about and it's not listed feel free to ask!
Here are some detail shots from around the room
Now introducing my sweet Millie
Isn't she the sweetest baby?!
I was so scared I wouldn't feel the same about the second baby but I was so wrong.
Her big sister is great with her and I can't wait to see how they grow with one another.
I look forward to the fun, chaos, fights, laughing, crying.....everything that comes with having girls and being a mom.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Beautiful nursery for a beautiful baby!
ReplyDeleteCute! I would never think to paint my crib but I love the pop of color.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new little one.The Girls are so sweet together. I love the Nursery update. As a Mom I am a little concerned with the Banners hanging over the bed. They are adorable but I worry if that should fall while your tiny one is sleeping. Don't mean to alarm you but it was just a thought. Perhaps you can hang them on the wall with the Mirror. They are to cute not to use.
ReplyDeleteHow did you make the banner above the crib? is it fabric? Paper? Love it!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on baby #2! Love the crib!
I used scrapbook paper and just cut from corner to corner and looped string through. I will try to do a tutorial in the future.

ReplyDeleteHelen
Congratulations on your sweet little girl Helen! She's precious :) And the room looks amazing, you did a beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room and beautiful baby! I especially love the crib and dresser color choices :) Congrats!
ReplyDeleteLove the transformation. I'm hoping to paint our cribs too. Yes cribs as in twins are around the corner!! Did you use any special paint/ technique. I tell my family of my plans and they are all against it due to when the babies begin to teeth. Would love any feedback you have/ used against this arguement.
ReplyDeleteThe nursery looks amazing! We have the same crib and ours has been through two boys, and our youngest chewed across the entire top piece. Did you sand/prime your crib first and after it was painted what did you seal it with? Thanks :) xo Bridgett
ReplyDeleteMy third baby was born about a week after your little girl. She is darling! I love the painted crib. It's so fun! And we did the same thing with the closet in our nursery. I love how it opens up the room. New follower on bloglovin!
ReplyDeleteI LOOOVE the crib color. What did you use to paint it? I've wanted to get a used crib and freshen it up with paint but am worried about baby chewing on it and eating toxic nasties. My first child was really bad about that, he chewed absolutely EVERYTHING and kind of destroyed one rail of a crib we borrowed until we could buy our own. oops.
ReplyDeleteSherwin Williams makes a 'green" paint line that would be great for a crib. Unfortunately, even new cribs from the store have sealers and chemicals on them too. I used spray poly to seal it. My 1st never chewed the crib so I am hoping this baby is the same. haha. If not, I will put a plastic rail protector on there. Good luck!
DeleteOMGOSH this is lovely!!!! Great job, I think my fave is the changing table!
ReplyDeleteCongrats too, she's beautiful!!!

Hi. I just found this blog through Better After and that room (not to mention the adorable baby) are to die for! A question for you though - when painting the crib were you worried at all about the paint hurting the newborn and/or baby at all? I don't know maybe if they chew on the crib or something? I would love to paint our crib for our next baby but am unsure for some reason...?
ReplyDeleteI understand your concern and in the end you have to go with your gut about painting your crib. If you have doubts don't to it.
DeleteA reader left a comment on Better After asking about sealer and paint and Lindsay (author of better after) had a response that I agree with 100%. She said, "brand new furniture is going to be treated with chemicals in some way too, sad truth. :/ However, there are lots of non-toxic and NO VOC paints out there, and even some organic paint brands too. I'd say that's your best bet".
I would do lots of research and see what you are comfortable with. Sherwin Williams makes a "green" paint which I used on a crib for a client which is safe for children and babies. Also you could always add a plastic crib rail if you baby does chew. My 1st never chewed the crib so that also helped in my decision to paint the crib.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
Helen, this is such a cute room! I'm always amazed at what paint can do. I really love how the teal crib looks next to the yellow side table, and the custom yellow you created looks perfect! I saw you said you painted the walls Glidden Misty Moonstone and the crib Behr Teal Zeal. I'd love to feature this on my paint color blog, Involving Color. Let me know if you're interested!
ReplyDeleteDid you use a primer before painting the crib? I just bought the exact same crib for my boy and we plan to paint it either chirp or splash by Quiet Home Paints. I live in a tiny Alaskan town so I need to order my paint and everything online and won't be able to just run out and pick some up myself.
ReplyDeleteWas it hard to paint all the individual rails of the crib?
