Back to Work

I've been trying to add new inventory so I can paint my own pieces when I'm not working on custom orders. I love doing custom pieces but there's something about doing my own piece.
I bought a dresser about three weeks before I was scheduled to have my baby and I had the hopes of finishing it within a week. That didn't happen but in my defense I did get the bottom and drawers painted.

It's been three weeks since I had my daughter and I'm ready to get back to work. I figured I should finish what I started.

AFTER

The color was labeled as Rose Dust by Valspar in the "oops" section but it was mixed wrong so I don't know the real name of this color. If you Google rose dust by Valspar it is definitely not this color.

The picture on the left is the "oops" color without glaze and the picture on the right is with black glaze.

I went with black glaze for two reasons: 1. To tone down the color and to add depth  2. So the knobs would tie in with the color better.
The color is a pretty red now that it is glazed but nothing too dark.

I think the glaze was the perfect finishing touch to this dresser.

Are you a fan of glaze?

  3. Helen this is awesome! I've never used glaze, but you make it look easy, even though I've heard from people it can be a nightmare! The best parts of this dresser are the sides (LOVE) and the knobs (good eye!).

  6. Love red!!! Do you have a preference on the paint you use. I think I read that you add baking soda to make it a chalk paint? Do you add that to every paint you apply? Also does the paint sheen make a difference? Thanks!!

  7. I love this! The color is very similar to my red dresser I just linked to MMS...only I used dark walnut stain to get the toned down/antique look. Did you finish yours with a wax ?
