DIY Glitter Candlestick Makeover

I've been playing with glitter a lot lately. A little too much if you ask my husband, my kitchen floor, and my driveway. It looks like a glitter bomb went off and no amount of sweeping or wiping will clean it all up.

What could a little more glitter hurt... so I came up with another project.

Almost two years ago I picked up a pair of candlesticks from Goodwill. I think I was going to use them to make a cake plate for my daughters birthday.
They have been sitting in my laundry room since the day I brought them home and poor Elise never got a DIY cake plate.

The before picture does them justice compared to what they look like in person.
Plus I got these bad boys for a steal!

This project was super easy & fast.
I get a lot of emails asking how to do crafts which I (and probably you too) think are easy but to some readers crafts are more of a chore than fun.
If crafts don't come easy to you, this post is for you!

If you want to glam up your own ugly candlestick I am going to walk you through it.

You need:
A candlestick
adhesive spray or modge podge (it doesn't have to be matte)
extra fine glitter
foam brush or small paint brush
towel or shoe box

Brush a little modge podge on your candlestick. It doesn't need to be a thick layer of glue but make sure to get in the creases.
I think adhesive spray would have been a little easier to use but I didn't have any on hand so I used modge podge.

On the first stick I started at the top which worked okay. On the second one, I started from the bottom up and I thought it worked a little easier. It was easier to turn the candlestick without messing up the wet areas. But work from whatever end you like.

Tip: Place your candlestick in the shoebox or on the towel to catch all the extra glitter

After you paint on a little glue cover that area with glitter. Don't be afraid to pour a lot out.
It looks like a lot of glitter comes out but it's not as much as you think. Plus after you are finished you can pour all of the extra glitter back into the glitter jar.

Work in sections and once the entire candlestick is covered let it dry.
Once the glue is dry there will still be a little extra glitter that you can get off by tapping the stick on your towel or inside the shoe box.
If you missed any areas apply more glue & glitter and let dry.

My shoe box had a little hole cutout that worked great as an extra hand or a place to rest the candlestick when I needed to use both hands.

Once everything is dry you can display your candlesticks.

Think of all the colors you could use on this project.
You could use black for some glam Halloween decor or a pretty gold glitter for New Year's Eve.
When these have lit candles in them they look even better. They catch all of the light and shimmer even more.

What do you think of glitter decor?
Do you love it or hate it!?

Baby Changing Table

How is everyone...wonderful, I hope!
If you follow me on Facebook you may have seen a post about emergency surgery.
No worries!
I had enormous kidney stones (yes, multiple) that had me take a trip to the ER, which led to an overnight stay in the hospital and then to the operating room to have a stent put in.
I'm back home now and my husband did a great job holding the fort down and watching the babies while I was in the hospital.

Working from home is nice but when you have deadlines for client orders it can be stressful when you are physically not able to work. Thankfully, all of my customers are beyond understanding.

Speaking of customers! Noreen contacted me about painting an old dresser for her soon-to-be grand baby.

She and her daughter found an inspiration piece they loved while searching Pinterest. The inspiration was painted by Denise from a girl and a brush  (click the link to see the inspiration by Desi).  We brainstormed and changed a few things without losing the overall look.
The color is a soft gray but looks a little blue in a few of these photos

My homemade glitter jar/vase. Who knew doing one glitter project could make a girl so glitter happy!
I saw one on Pinterest and had to add it to my DIY list.

The gender is going to be a surprise so Noreen's daughter wanted to go with a neutral pallet.

The color is Silverplate (satin) by Sherwin Williams.
I didn't distress this piece and I sealed with two coats of wax.

The pulls are from Hobby Lobby and they are a glass amber.
Hobby Lobby used to always have their knobs 50% off. Now they only put hardware on sale once or twice a month. It was a sad day when I learned about this!!

Thanks for visiting!

My Fall Mantel & A Little Glitter

Fall is here!
I'm not the type to decorate for every season. I will stick a wreath on my front door and carve a pumpkin or two.
I've been inspired by some pretty mantels lately so I wanted to decorate mine this year.

We are also planning on redoing our kitchen soon and
I think the kitchen updates and hosting during the holidays has inspired me to add some fall decor to my mantel.

Look at all that glitter! It looks so Hollywood up close.

You can't really tell in this picture, but our living room has a single vaulted ceiling and it's so hard to decorate. Well, it's hard for me because I like things to be even....my OCD kicks in!

I found some decorative string in the scrapbook section of JoAnn's. You can't tell that the sting is striped until you get up close. It's all in the little details.

The bowl belonged to my grandmother. It's something I usually only bring out around the holidays because of how special it is to me.

We grew an accidental pumpkin garden this year.
Last year I threw all of the rotten pumpkins in the compost.
This year we noticed something growing. At first we thought is was squash and then watermelon. Once the whole area under our deck was covered with vines we realized we had pumpkins.

Since my fall sign is so big I decided to keep the mantel a little more simple. I wanted to add color with the leaves and use the pumpkins from our garden. I love how it came out.

Do you like to decorate for the seasons or just for the big holidays?

Happy fall!!!

Vintage Market Days: St. Louis

Vintage Market Days was in St. Louis this weekend and I got to spend a few hours checking it out with Patty from P.W. Designs and my girlfriend Megan.
I wanna share some of the pretty things I saw and I wanted to take more pictures but my hungry and crying baby had other plans!
I was able to get a few pictures.....

The market was in the country at an old barn. The barn was huge! To give you an idea, this picture was taken standing in the middle of the barn.
The booth to the right belongs to Nicole from Rescued Furnishings. Super cute stuff!!

I wanted to say hi to a few other blogger's that I follow but Baby Millie had me a little frazzled so I didn't get to make all the rounds. I did make sure to say hi to Rachel from Shades of Blue Interiors. She had the best spot in the barn. When you walked in she was the first booth you saw.

All she had left was this set of chairs and table and Union Jack bed.

Here are a few more pretty things she had in her space.

I asked Rachel if I could take a picture of her for this blog post and she said we should take one together. Note to self: wear a little eye make-up for possible photo op's! Perhaps some lip gloss.
Millie is in awe of her work too!

Here are some other pretty things at the market.
Anne from Vintage Goods made this cute burlap bunting. I missed the middle booths and apparently she was hiding in there. Hi Anne!!

When I saw this old table I loved the aging of the paint. I was taking pictures from the side and I saw a barrel underneath it.
It's an old flour table. See the built-in cutting board above the drawer?
The tag says Possum Belly Dough Table.

The weather was perfect and the crowds weren't bad since we went on the last day.
Who knows, I might be sharing photos of my booth with you guys....next year!
