Dresser in Pitch Black Milk Paint

Hi friends.

I love this makeover!
I have only painted one other piece black and that was for a client. Black is not my normal but I knew it would work with this piece. I went to my local WoodCraft and bought a couple sacks of Old-Fashioned Milk Paint. It was on sale and I couldn't pass up the price.

BEFORE

AFTER
This brand of milk paint leaves a milky, sometimes uneven, finish.
I think it's perfect because it gives it a more worn look & some depth.
I need to mention, I do not have my dog pose. He sees the camera, a comfy rug and plops right down.

I found these pulls at Target.
I love the hammered finish.

The natural lighting makes this piece look like there is white, or some type of build-up, but it's just the sunlight.

I have to give my friend Reeves, from The Weathered Door, props for the inspiration to do the paper art wall. You guys should check out her page. She is beyond talented!
I found an old book at Goodwill, cut out my favorite pictures, and taped them to the wall.
They are frame worthy!

I adore how this little dresser turned out.

Empire Dresser in White Raisin

When I first started blogging about furniture I always showed a before and after picture.
Recently it's just been an after shot of a pretty piece of furniture.

I feel this piece needs a before and after so you can see how far it has come!

There was a top and a complete set of drawers but the top was bowed beyond repair and all of the veneer needed to be removed too.
My husband made a new top for this dresser and replaced the right leg that had fallen off.

I decided to line the drawers with a funky ikat fabric because the bottoms of the drawers were pretty worn and overall gross.

Overall, the dresser turned out awesome considering the original condition.

The hardware and fabric came from Hobby Lobby
&
the color is White Raisin by Sherwin Williams.
The top was stained in dark walnut.

Keeping it in the Family....Dresser Makeover

Hi everyone....hope you are enjoying your weekend!

I have been finishing up all of my custom orders so I can relax for about 3 weeks before baby comes.

This dresser is a custom piece I did for Beth. Actually, it is for her little girl who is getting a big girl room. This dresser has been in her family for decades and she wanted to update it for her little girl.

If you are interested in these prints you can find them on Etsy.

The flowers in our flower bed's are starting to bloom.

If you follow me on facebook, you saw the original pulls Beth chose.
I found them at World Market and they were super cute. Cute doesn't always equal good quality or functional. For one, they sat way to close to the drawer to pull open. Second, I put all the blue bubble pulls on to make sure the drawers worked properly and when I went to open a drawer the whole glass ball broke off the stem.
They went back the next day!

I stuck to what I know and went to Hobby Lobby. I took a poll on the Picked & Painted Facebook page to get input from followers. (you should follow along on Facebook)!

It was a close tie between #2 and #4. In the end, Beth had the last say and she picked the blue and white resin knob.

Here are all the details:

I had to remove the veneer on the bottom two drawers and the top. We were hoping to stain the top but there was wood damage under the veneer so it had to be painted.

I used Swiss Coffee by Behr and sealed with wax.
The pulls are from Hobby Lobby

You can find the art here.

Custom Dresser for Emma

Sweet Emma is getting a room makeover and her mom was looking for a dresser to customize for her.
Emma's sister recently got a new dresser and a blog post all of her own so I couldn't leave Emma out!

BEFORE

AFTER

The color looks white in the photos but it's more off white in person.

The color is Romano by Valspar
The pulls are from Hobby Lobby

The original piece had chipping paint (most likely lead paint) and it needed to be removed.
I loved the chippy look but I doubt it was safe so it had to go.
After it was all sanded and cleaned up....I painted, distressed the edges, and waxed with Johnson's paste wax.

This is such a cute dresser and I hope Emma loves it in her new room!

Dresser turned Media Stand

Last year I re-purposed an old cheap dresser into a functional TV stand....(click here for a refresher).
My newest client wanted to find an old dresser to use as a media stand for her newly renovated basement.
She also had this desk customized to put in her basement.

I found a dresser on Craigslist, the price was right, and it was in great working condition. It lacked in the pretty department, but that's where I come in, and it had tons of storage. There's a total of 8 drawers and a cabinet with 2 shelves. I'm a little jealous myself.....I have a love of drawers (it's where I hide all of my junk.....I could hide a lot in this piece).

BEFORE

AFTER

There were two big drawers inside the doors but that space needs to be used to house electronics so we added two shelves. My husband gutted the inside, took out the drawer tracks and cut 2 pieces of 3/4 inch  MDF to fit. I do the painting and my hubby does all the hard stuff.
These three photos give you a visual of what the process of gutting and adding a shelf look like.
Since electronics are going inside the doors I also made sure to add ventilation holes to prevent any overheating. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the holes.

Here is one more after photo

For those who are interested in the small details:
The paint is Thermal Spring by Valspar (I think it has more green undertones in person)
I used homemade chalk paint (1 c. paint to 1/4 c. to 1/2 c. baking soda)
**start with 1/4 c. and add more if needed**
The pulls are from Hobby Lobby
I lightly distressed and sealed with Johnson's Paste Wax

Let's talk about the gallery wall! In our living room we have a huge wall, and it's vaulted too, which means a lot of empty space. We decided to turn it into a gallery wall using pictures taken by my husband's granddad, pictures we found on a trip to D.C., a few pieces I found on Etsy, and some plates I found at Goodwill years ago. We have lived in our house for over 2 years and we just started putting stuff on the walls.
I wanted to make sure it was something I would love. We still haven't painted any room since we moved in either (except the playroom and guest bathroom). I feel like those are big long term decisions and I am not ready to make them......but the time has come. Baby steps.

Pink Ombre Dresser

Happy Valentine's Day! I painted a sweet little dresser in three shades of pink and white for my little girl and I think it is a great piece to share on Valentine's day. I have had this dresser for a while now but I don't think it ever sold because it's so short. This dresser is perfect for a four year old!

BEFORE
Seriously, does this thing have enough knobs???

AFTER

I distressed the edges because I know it will get a lot of wear over the years and having it distressed will lessen the blow when it gets beat up.
I used Swiss Coffee for the white and I found a color sample with three graduating colors so it would be easier to make a color selection. I also used homemade chalk paint with each color. I use chalk paint more for the durability and less for the look.
I filled a few extra holes (from the gazillion original knobs) and used clear glass pulls.

Here are the names of the different shades I pink I used.

I love this little dresser and I'm so glad I finally found a use for it. You wouldn't believe it, but my house only has about three pieces of painted furniture. I never have time to paint anything for the house or my family. I'm glad I finally get to do something for my daughter.
