Two Toned Star Dresser

Happy weekend, even though it is almost over. I have a very quick before and after. I found this dresser on Craigslist last year and had it in my inventory for a while. A lady named Marta saw it and wanted to use it as a TV stand.

BEFORE

I snapped this picture before we loaded it up for delivery. Marta found pulls at Lowe's which were on clearance and in limited quantity.  Thankfully, she was able to find enough for this dresser but we had to wait to add the hardware until we delivered so I don't have many after pictures.

AFTER
She decided to keep all of the drawers and house her electronics on the top or on another table next to the TV stand. We didn't center anything for these pictures....it was just a quick after shot.

I love how the hardware matches the dresser perfectly. I also like her choice of knobs.....it's so modern and different.

I have to share the picture of her kitty Mattie (he really wanted to be included).

Abby's Dresser Makeover & Faux Embroidery Art

My newest client contacted me about painting a dresser for her daughter Abby. She saw the pink ombre dresser I did for my daughter and wanted to do the same on this piece.

Unfortunately, there isn't a before picture because I misplaced the cord for my camera.
It's easy to picture the before....imagine it white with a shiny manufactured finish. Oh, there were also burns on the top from a flat iron.

I mentioned DIY art so the above is just a teaser.

AFTER

Even though the dresser was already white it was a little beat up so it needed a fresh coat of paint.
I used chalk paint (as usual), lightly distressed the sides of the drawers, and sealed with paste wax.

The shades of pink are (from light to dark):  pink chintz, springtime bloom, and fuchsia kiss.
All are by Behr paint and are on the same color swatch (100B).

The pulls are from Hobby Lobby.

If you have ever looked online for ideas to decorate a little girls room or a nursery you have probably seen the embroidery hoops with scrapbook paper.

This is just one example but there are many.

Well, money is a little tight sometimes and I didn't want to spend money on embroidery hoops or fabric or scrapbook paper....etc.

I used things I already had on hand. I used a diaper box for the backing, ribbon to hide the cardboard, scrapbook paper, and the rosettes I used to make for decoration.

If you would like to see a tutorial let me know in the comments or on my facebook page.

Here is one more after picture of Abby's new dresser

Blue & White Waterfall Dresser

I know Fall is officially here but I have to share this beach inspired dresser.
My clients, Brett and Christine, bought a new house and were looking for a few pieces to add to their new digs.
They have a beach cottage style and asked me to transform this dresser to fit their style.
My clients usually tell me exactly what they want but Brett & Christine left this one all up to me.
Pressure!!

I stripped the original paint and removed the veneer on two of the drawers.
In the Before picture you can see a decorative piece in the center of the top drawer. My clients wanted that removed so I popped it off and I love how it looks!

I primed (that's the white you see peeking through), painted with homemade chalk paint, sanded and sealed with wax.

The paint colors I used were Aspen Aura and Swiss Coffee by Behr.

I love Fall but this dresser already makes me miss Summer!

French Country Dressers Before & After

When I saw this dresser set on Craigslist I knew I had to have it! I always think I have to have everything I see on there but this one was meant to be.

BEFORE

These blurry photos make the dressers look like they are in perfect condition. In reality, there was missing veneer on the front of the drawers (too big to fill with wood filler) and layers upon layers of furniture polish. The dresser with the mirror also needed some repair work so the drawers would close.

AFTER

I used Rocky Mountain Sky by Behr and Swiss Coffee also by Behr.
I mixed the chalk paint recipe I always and sealed with wax (on the white and tops of dressers) and poly for the blue/gray parts.

My chalk paint recipe is 1 cup latex paint and 1/2 cup baking soda. I don't measure anymore but I would recommend adding 1/4 cup baking soda at first and then add a little more if you want the paint to be thicker.

I mentioned doing a how-to post and I am still working on it.
My husband thinks I should do a Vlog or a video tutorial. Oh, just the idea of it makes me cringe but I think it would be more helpful than pictures. I broke out the video camera while I was working on these dressers but couldn't find the nerve to videotape myself.
I have other projects I am doing so maybe I will bite the bullet and make you guys a how-to video.
